Flashback Friday: Covered in Adventures

Published by

For today’s Flashback Friday, I want to share a delightful picture book all about adventures and the messes they make. Covered in Adventures by Gillian Hibbs follows a young girl named Sasha who doesn’t want to replace her beloved sweater, for fear she will lose the memories of all the adventures she had while wearing it.

Sasha won’t even let her dads wash the sweater because the memories might be washed away. She pleads her case to her dads by recalling each adventure based on the rips and stains they created. But eventually, she realizes that the sweater didn’t make the memories, and a new sweater just means more room for more memories.

Covered in Adventures is a great choice for talking to children about memories and how we hold onto them. It also pairs really well with scrapbooking and journaling activities!

The illustrations are so adorable! I love the bright color work, and especially all the messes Sasha makes.

Covered in Adventures is available wherever books are sold, including Bookshop and Amazon. (Please note: Some links provided are affiliate links. Thank you so much to Child’s Play and Publisher’s Spotlight for sharing this wonderful picture book with me! I’m so happy to share it with everyone today.

About The Author/Illustrator:

Gillian spends much of her time making beautiful things in the basement studio under her dad’s bicycle shop, which she shares with a selection of friendly (but not very chatty) inner tubes and mudguards. Despite her underground work space, Gillian loves being outside in the garden, although she would probably be a more successful gardener if she was a bit less scared of wriggly things.
